Grading System
The Sindh government has announced a new grading system for Matric and Intermediate students, replacing the traditional marks-based evaluation. This change aims to provide a more accurate reflection of students’ performance and capabilities. Starting in 2025, students will receive grades rather than numerical marks. This grading approach will help students understand their abilities better and encourage a more positive outlook on academic assessment.
Sindh Government Introduces New Grading System
The Sindh government has introduced this new grading system as a way to evaluate students more thoroughly. Developed by the Inter-Board Coordination Committee (IBCC), this system will assign grades based on students’ performance levels. For instance, students scoring 95% and above will receive an “Exceptional” grade, while those scoring below 40% will receive an “Unsatisfactory” grade. This grading system reflects a shift in focus from simply passing exams to truly understanding students’ strengths and areas for improvement. By moving to a grading system, the Sindh government hopes to provide students with a fairer and more motivating evaluation system.
Pattern for the New Grading System
The Sindh government’s new grading system has specific grade categories based on students’ scores. For scores between 95% and 100%, students will receive an A++ grade, which signifies exceptional performance. A+ will represent scores from 90-94%, A will be for scores between 85-89%, and so on. Scores below 40% will receive a grade of “U” for “Unsatisfactory.” This new system allows students to aim for grade categories rather than focusing solely on passing or failing. By assigning grades, the Sindh government aims to create a more balanced approach to learning, where students focus on improving their understanding instead of just meeting minimum marks.

Sindh: The First Province to Implement This System
Sindh has become the first province in Pakistan to adopt this new grading system, while other provinces such as Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan continue to use traditional numerical marks. The decision to make this change was taken by the National Committee of Educational Board Chairmen, who wanted to bring uniformity to the grading system across the country. However, Sindh has taken the lead in adopting the system to provide a better assessment for students. This move not only emphasizes Sindh’s dedication to educational reform but also sets an example for other provinces to follow.

Minimum Passing Marks Have Been Increased
With the new grading system, the minimum passing marks have also been raised from 33% to 40%. This change by the IBCC aims to set a higher standard for students, encouraging them to strive for better results. The increase in passing marks reflects the Sindh government’s commitment to raising educational standards across the province. Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, the IBCC Executive Director, announced this update, stating that students who meet the passing criteria may also receive grace marks as part of educational reform efforts. The new system will challenge students to work harder, providing them with a more fulfilling educational experience.
